I’m writing on behalf of my father-in-law, Salvatore Cherra, who served with the 36th Infantry, 142nd Regiment, Company F, and fought in the mountains of the Cassino, Italy region. “Sam” as we call him didn’t speak of his war service until he was 96 years old! We were amazed and in awe of what he told us regarding his service in Italy. He was injured when his unit came under fire in Venafro, which is not far from Cassino.
